Asa understands. He doesn't understand everything but there are definitely words you can say that he understands such as "NO". He will even shake his head after hearing it. However, there are times when the meaning of the word "NO" gets jumbled in his head after you say it.For example, when you say "Asa NO. Do not slap the TV."
He hears "WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH."
Then he interprets what you say as "Not only should you slap the TV, do it harder and laugh while you do it."
[sigh]
We try to disciple Asa the best we can, but seriously, how do you discipline a one year old? This is what we do...Timeout.
Dev has a small step stool that we put in the hallway for him to sit on when he doesn't listen. Timeout is supposed to be time away from everything fun, no toys, and certainly no smiling faces looking at him because...well...he is in timeout. However, we cannot control the fun that happens in his head. While we sternly hold him in place, he always bounces, laughs, and knocks his head against the wall.
He's a happy kid even in timeout. I just wish he understood our "NO".

How in the world can you tell that sweet little one, "No"?
i think you guys are doing a great job, just keep it up. just be consistent with your "no's". especially when he is a teenager! it's ok to say no to driving your car until he is potty-trained! love ya, poppop
Yep, it's hard to tell a precious little one "No", especially one as cute as Asa, but with the way you are loving and consistant will pay off, for it's so much better to listen to his head banging now than when he's a teenager.
